Renovations to a suburban pre-war timber house to accommodate a significant increase of internal areas and expanded capacity to host outdoor gatherings.
New internal areas occupy the undercroft of the existing house in order to preserve a large back yard. New exterior spaces are composed of heavy masonry elements, enabling a closer engagement with the garden.
This ‘second language’ contrasts with the original elevated lightweight construction, with the aim to maintain legibility of the original house form and avoid visually overwhelming the site.
